GREG LOWE'S (2004) CD Release:
THE YELLOW PELICAN
(2004) "THE YELLOW PELICAN" HAS LANDED"
Winnipeg guitarist and composer, Greg Lowe, is pleased to
announce the "arrival" of his latest recording, "The Yellow Pelican".
One
of the winners of the 2004 Project Cool contest sponsored by local radio
station, Cool FM, Lowe and his band mates turn in a blistering set of Lowe
originals, demonstrating once again that he is indeed one of the country's
finest guitarists in any genre, from jazz to R&B to folk to country to the
classical/New Music stage.
Winning up to $15,000 for recording, design and manufacturing costs might
entice some artists to hit cruise control, but that's not the case with "The
Yellow Pelican". It soars under Lowe's leadership, displaying the amazing
range to his playing, blasting off bluesy jazz riffs, catching a funky
groove, then mellowing out with some beautiful Spanish-influenced stylings.
The fifth CD released by Lowe, it is bound to attract the attention of jazz
guitar and smooth jazz fans.
Along for the flight are four of Winnipeg's finest jazz
musicians: Rick Boughton on keyboards, Glen Matthews on
percussion, Daniel Roy on drums, and John Ervin on bass.
Lowe's composing skills and vast musical influences are also
another focus of "The Yellow Pelican," not surprising for someone who has
become a noted composer on the Canadian scene. Several orchestral
compositions have been featured at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra's New
Music Festival and broadcast by the CBC,
and he has been commissioned by the WSO to compose a piece for electric
guitar for the 2005 Centara New Music Festival.
He continues to compose for television, theatre productions,
radio dramas, and films, and recently completed a successful stint at the
Vancouver Playhouse, directing the music and performing in "The River" a
theatrical concert of Joni Mitchell's music which he helped to debut in
Winnipeg in 2002.
In addition to leading several versions of the Greg Lowe
Band, Lowe was a member of the Canadian legendary R&B
band, The Lincolns, from 1986-1990, was an original member
of the swing jazz trio, Swing Soniq, and currently splits the
spotlight with fellow plectrist Jack Semple in the exciting
guitar duo, The Chess Club.
The CD is available in Winnipeg at McNally Robinson Grant
Park, Into The Music, and Music Traders
